After a night at the highest point of our tour we descend again and hike to the spiritual source of the Ganges - the Gaumukh glacier.
The second day of our Himalayan tour is upon us. We continue to follow the river and for the first time we can see three peaks of Bhagirathi mountain.
The Ganga river feeds mainly from the Bhagirathi river, the river we walk along our Himalaya trek to Gaumukh - Tapovan. Legend has it that the king Bhageeratha asked lord Brahma to bring down the Ganga river to earth to perform ceremonies for his ancestors.
Der Ganges speist sich hauptsächlich aus dem Fluss Bhagirathi, der sich aus dem Gaumukh Gletscher speist. Die Legende besagt, dass der König Bhageeratha den Gott Brahma darum bat, den Fluss Ganges auf die Erde zu schicken um so eine Zeremonie für seine Ahnen durchzuführen.
Day 1 of our trek starts at just before 6:00 am. It will take us from Gangotri, to the Gaumukh Glacier and to the Tapovan Plateau at the foot of the sacred Mount Shivling.
We start our first multi-day trek in the Himalayas in Dehradun. From there we will drive 12 hours to Gangotri, the starting point of our trek.
